About CSIR

Founded in 1942 the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) was mandated to achieve self-reliance in Indian technological capability and bolster the competiveness of Indian industry. Currently, it has a chain of 37 laboratories and 39 outreach centres spread across the country catering to research, development and innovation in the domains of biological, chemical, engineering, information and physical sciences. CSIR represents an autonomous society headed by the Prime Minister.

Of late, CSIR has embarked on repositioning itself so as to converge with the new expectations of country and has carved out a roadmap for 2022. To this end, CSIR as an organization envisages to practice science that strives for global scientific impact, develop technologies that catalyse innovation driven industry, train human resources so as to nurture trans-disciplinary leadership, and provide empowerment so as to enable inclusive economic development.
